What is Search Engine Optimization?

Search engine optimization also referred to as SEO, is the method of enriching website volume along with quality traffic to a specific domain from the search results page (i.e. Google Search).

The more favorable your domain ranks on each search engine result page (SERP). The better placement you have, the easiest it is for new users to find you.

As a means to increase a website’s materiality, search engine optimization advisors must always consider how search engine algorithms work and what exactly people are searching for (i.e. keywords, phrases, questions, etc)

A typical SEO procedure may include the domain’s design, on-page creatives/content, copywriting, domain UI/UX – as well as fixing any errors and warnings to improve your SERP rankings.

If your company’s website is not indexed by search engines, there will be no chance at all for your site to get high visibility rankings on search engines.

Thus, it is essential for companies to invest time and money into SEO to make sure that search engines properly index their websites.

The term “SEO” when referring to individuals is also known as  “Search Engine Optimizer”.

This industry phrase refers to both consultants and agencies that offer search engine optimization solutions on behalf of their customers.

One important thing to note when working with a third-party consultant or SEO agency is that changes will most like have to be made to your website.

For this reason, our first step is always to analyze the framework and infrastructure of the domain before any on-page (or backend) optimization changes are made.

This not only ensures that any and all SEO efforts are started on the right track but that both parties are aware of the issues and gameplan to resolve them.

Search Engine Optimization as a Marketing Strategy for Businesses

How should companies use search engine optimization as a marketing approach?

The preliminary goal when implementing SEO on a domain is to increase and grow targeted user traffic.

Studies have shown that searchers scan a search result from top to bottom and left to right, looking for relevant results. This means that the #1 Google spot is your golden ticket.

Consequently, if your company’s domain is at the top of organic rankings, it will most likely increase the number of searchers who will visit your site. The rest (the content) is on you!

A prosperous campaign usually involves SEO, while also consisting of the use of PPC (paid advertising), building high-quality landing pages that drive engagement and persuade users to take action. This can be accomplished with a simple call-to-action (CTA) button.

Benefits of SEO for Businesses

Companies can benefit from search engine optimization in a plethora of ways. Whether the goal is to increase brand awareness, get sales leads or increase sales revenue – SEO helps it all.

Without further ado – below is a breakdown of the top benefits SEO (search engine optimization) can bring to your business if implemented correctly.

  • Increase hyper-targeted traffic. SEO can boost the number of years your site receives.
  • Boost brand awareness. By ranking higher on Google your domain will be shown to much more eyeballs – this means you need to cater to the masses
  • Passive traffic – think of organic traffic and SEO as putting in the hard work now then retiring – once your SEO is foolproof, you can watch the traffic flow in.
  • Elevated sales. Since good SEO practices bring you targeted traffic, converting those into sales should not only be easier but a simpler process all around.
  • Everlasting positioning. Once you optimize your site’s content to the point that Google ranks you #1 – nobody if 5 companies do the same you should hold the first page.
  • Better bang for your buck. Although PPC grants business instant results, SEO gives you the chance to build a safety net should SEM efforts show subpar results temporarily.

Nevertheless, to ensure that you have a thriving SEO plan enforced, the only other thing you should worry about (if working with a third party) is that they are abiding by the guidelines of Google, Bing, as well as any other search engines.

When it comes to SEO – there are some “tricks” you can do to rank fast – however, they have their costs and disadvantages. Next, we’ll bring light to white hat versus black hat SEO.

White Hat SEO VS Black Hat SEO

When it comes to learning the basics of SEO, there is a right way to do it, and there is a wrong way – White Hat SEO vs Black Hat SEO.

White hat SEO is a method that search engines such as Google suggest as an acceptable approach whereas black hat SEO are techniques that search engines do not approve of.

A quick example of this would be keyword stuffing – in the olden days of Google, a blog could repeatedly overuse a specific keyword and it would actually get them ranked.

Today – Google is much smarter than that, using a plethora of KPIs (key performance indicators) to uncover which domain is truly deserving of the first page.

Black hat SEO procedures will most likely result in getting a website to rank very well originally, however, the domain will ultimately suffer a shadow ban or complete ban once search engines discover what they are “pulling”.

For this reason alone – you should focus on white hat SEO. Play the long game – we promise the results will pay off.

When we hold a microscope under the two different types of SEO the one thing that stands out is that White hat SEO caters to the users – whereas black hat is focused on fooling search engines.

With Google and Bing consistently improving and optimizing their own algorithms it will essentially be impossible for you to stay updated after using black hat growth hack methods.

Any and all content on your website should be catered to assist crawlers – not fool them. Whether you’d like to think it or not – you are not smarter than Google.

Therefore – to be safe, make sure to use clean “Google approved” content here. Although it can be tempting to purchase backlinks – it will only hurt you in the long run.

Search engines like Google and Bing put a high value on relevancy. Giving users not only what they want, where they want it but giving them a “safe” website to navigate on is music to all search engines’ ears.

Black hat methods typically concern techniques where webmasters try to quickly improve SERP rankings that are disliked by search engines – this method usually involves deception.

One of the most common techniques black-hat SEO marketers have used in the past is “white text”. Why? Because the users will not see it – but the search engines will.

For example, let’s say you were writing an article about Google Ads, what if you added keywords after every paragraph – in between them – as well as in the margins?

Well, Google is going to think you have this amazing article at first and rank you favorably.

Another familiar process is known as” cloaking” – this is when a domain loads a separate page pivoting on whether the page is being viewed by another human or just a search engine crawler.

Google will punish websites that employ black hat SEO methods, this is done either by decreasing their organic rankings or removing them from SERPs altogether.

Like we stated before – play the long game. It is not worth the quick victory to have your website banned (or shadow banned) from a search engine.

Think about it – where should Google rank a brand new blog/article over something that has been receiving honest clicks for some time? There is no quick way to the top here.
